FORMAL EDGE / IMPOSSIBLE-SCULPTURE MACHINE 08

One ball becomes two.

Open the structure, rotate what looks impossible, and reassemble it. The experience gives you the shock first; the group theory and Choice machinery are backstage if you want them.

No quiz. Touch the machine and watch what happens.
PLAY FIRST / THE IMPOSSIBLE SCULPTURE

Make one mathematical ball become two.

Do not imagine cutting an orange into ordinary chunks. This is stranger: non-measurable point-sets are organized by rotations, moved without stretching, and reassembled set-theoretically.

The firewall matters: this is mathematical structure, not a physical recipe for duplicating matter.
BANACH–TARSKI / SET-THEORETIC SCULPTURE
One ball. Then two the same size.
Begin with one ball. The surprise lives in what counts as a “piece.”
What you just saw

The idea arrives after the spectacle.

Not ordinary chunksThe decomposition uses highly non-measurable sets of points, not solids with ordinary volume.
Rigid motionThe pieces are moved by rotations; they are not stretched to make more material.
The theoremWith the set-theoretic machinery in place, the pieces can be reassembled into two balls congruent to the original.
