The Mercurial World / Thought Instruments / Intuition Gallery

Intuition Gallery

Four public thought instruments for testing boundary, infinity, information, and aggregation before explanation arrives.

Four distinct sculptural thought instruments displayed in a dark gallery.

Predict first. Operate second. Explain only after the phenomenon is visible. This gallery houses four instruments; the broader wing remains one threshold back.

The Intuition Gallery is one chamber within the larger Thought Instruments wing. Return to the wing threshold for the neighboring destinations, or continue into the four instruments below.

No prior mathematics required. Equations arrive after the phenomenon. Each instrument states the boundary between established source material and Hg-authored interpretation.

Instrument I / Boundary / Sorites + Fuzzy Modeling

The Heap That Has No First Grain

Choose a boundary before the machine shows you what your boundary costs.

I.A / The heap chamber

At what grain does this become a heap?

One formal lens — not the only theory of vagueness

Now compare a crisp category with a graded membership model.

The fuzzy apparatus is preserved below. Fuzzy modeling is presented as one formal representation, not as a settled philosophical solution to Sorites.

Before the distinction
Crisp category: a declared rule returns only IN or OUT. Fuzzy membership: a known value can satisfy a declared concept by a degree between 0 and 1. Probability: a number between 0 and 1 expresses uncertainty about an event or state under a probability model. A value such as 0.70 can therefore appear in both systems without meaning the same thing.
